I've just been investigating renting a U-Haul trailer myself & found online that my towing configuration was "recommended" after providing vehicle details & trailer type. This is part way through the online reservation process. You first have to join to get a free membership with password.

So, the individual U-Haul operator may do the same thing; i.e., they may depend upon a common database which you can access.
