many quality tire  shops are reluctant to put regular passenger tires
on a load rated vehicle.  check the tire plate on your  van and see if
it has a weight rating.  All  westies do and i beleive the base vanagon
also does.  the not being reinforced  load rated  tires is what they
are being cautious about.  A standard P tire is not a good safe
selection.  you want at least a load range C tire on the vanagons.
