Which suggests getting a small one until you know what your uses are.

True sine $$$ and only available in larger sizes, maybe not so efficient but otherwise highly desirable. Modified sine will put a buzz in many audio gear (with inadequately filtered power supply), will maybe put crawling bars on a CRT monitor, will often make small power supplies hum/buzz, and may give less torque from motor-driven stuff because peak voltages are a bit lower. However it suffices for the bulk of uses and is WAY cheaper.

Figure ten amps input for one watt output -- 200 watts consumption will draw about 20 amps from the battery, a kilowatt will draw about 100 amps.
