I'm having a similar problem with my '87 2.1L Vanagon. Does anyone have a part number for the Temp II sensor? I looked at Bus Depot but could only find one for 83-85 and 86-91 Syncro.

Sounds like your Temp II sensor is shot. Replacing it should cure the cold idle.
