Thanks to some part number sleuthing by list member Maynard Southard, I now have a window crank handle extension kit on my website.

This moves the window crank handles about 1/2" away from the doors, allowing you to use aftermarket speakers, which typically have protruding grills that interfere with the window crank. (I describe the spacing as 1/4" on my site but actually it is closer to 1/2".)

My part number is 155 898 595, and the price is $21.95. (Add something else to hit $50 and the 5% listmember discount will kick in.) ONE kit does BOTH front doors. You can order it by clicking on this link: http://busdepot.com/ASP/SearchProdId.cfm?ProdId=155+898&B1=Search

The kit consists of metal extensions, black plastic bezels to cover them so the handle still looks cosmetically correct, and longer screws. I tried them on my '89 Westy, and they work fine and look completely stock. (Sorry, older Vanagon owners, a brown bezel is not available, but I don't think the difference will be all that noticable anyway because of the small size of the bezel.) I was hoping to get a lower price on the kit by importing the pieces from Europe, but unfortunately it doesn't look too good; at best the price might drop about $2 for the kit, but that looks to be about it. In any case, $11 per door isn't that bad if it means you can get rid of those horrible stock speakers!
