The Vanagon ain't got no speed sensor. You'll need to find something from another car, or make your own.

I'm converting to Subaru power, and needed the same thing. (no flames about which conversion is better, to each his own)

Luckily a speed sensor is pretty easy and cheap to make, using magnetic reed switches (the kind usually found in window alarm systems).

Does the I4 require the OXS counter? If not, and the I4's ECU monitors OXS, then you can make a speed sensor with the OXS counter, a bit of wire, a reed switch, and a couple of magnets. How many magnets depends on how many "pulses" the I4's ECU needs to see per single revolution of the tire. Cost: $5-$8. Details cam be found here: http://www.tomcullen.org/Vehicles/Vanagon/speed_sensor.htm (page not complete yet, but you'll get the idea)

Another design for a speed sensor can be found here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/subaruvanagon/files/Speed%20Sensors/RAB%20 Speed%20Sensor%20Design.doc (this one mounts external to the transaxle, and is a bit more "exposed")

SmallCar out of Tacoma, Washington also sells one that works inside the speedometer. See: http://www.smallcar.com/speeds.htm

People on the subaruvanagon list have been getting good mileage out of these systems.

Hi, I need some information on how to provide to the Jetta ECU the speed information its needs. Anyone has that information? Best regards.
