Subject: AC Cap Screw
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

On my 88 GL AC there is a cap screw with an allen head recess. This screw, and the steel bushing that it goes into are part of the tightening system to hold the AC compressor in place. On my van the screw/bushing pair has been cross threaded. I can get a new cap screw easily and cheaply enough, but the bushing is another matter. Camelback VW in AZ sez the bushing is not available by itself. Only as part of the bracket assembly. Cost for AC compressor bracket --- $195. No way. So, the next best thing is to run a proper sized tap down through my old bushing to straighten up the threads, then put in a new screw.

My questions. Does anyone know what size and what thread count is the proper one for a tap that would match the hole in the bushing?

TIA,

John Rodgers 88 GL Driver
