Hi all,

As my Vanagon's coolant pipes need replacing this winter (I only drive it for six months out of twelve) I'd like to ask a question or two about using copper pipe to replace the long steel pipes that run under the floorpan:

How suitable is copper? Is it subject to attack by phosphates or any of the other nasty chemicals in coolant? Will the products of any corrosion of the copper (mainly copper salts) act as catalysts for any differential corrosion between steel and aluminum?

Are there any "better" choices? Is stainless steel an option, bearing in mind that it is only "stainless" at normal ambient air temperature? Is the original steel material a good replavement, subject to being wrapped in anti-corrosive Denso tape?

Sorry for so many questions! I want to do this job once, and only once .... for at least the next ten years! (Born optimist!)

Best regards,

Tony
