If you were to drill and tap as Edward suggests an easy way to remove some of those shavings would be to pull of the six cap screws on the idler reverse plate that is just below the fill plug. This allow for a great deal more oil gear oil to come out. The shavings would probably come with it...just remember that when replacing the plate the two cap screws in the center of the six are longer! Don't think they are all the same length and bottom one out and break it like it did...ouch. Dave 87 Syncro Westy
