Wait- I have been there- you have to make MORE serious clearancing of the left Vanagon firewall using the Golf-Jetta CIS-E or Digifant ll intake manifold. I hate to be the one throwing away the wrench here but with the Fox manifold you can get away with hammering the area behind the mainfold with a sledge. No cutting needed. WIth the Jetta man the firewall and a small wedge of frame rail needs to be cut away. The 92 Fox manifold is smaller, points toward the front of the van, and is a good choice for the later WBX. You can route the intake duct to the right side where the air-cleaner is on the WBX. But as others have said already, the 90 Fox is not a good choice - it's only rated at 83 hp. Better choices are the 85 GTI/GLI, and 86-92 Golf/Jetta, the best being the 87-92 GTI(PF) code, 105 hp. Better yet, the 115 hp 2.0 Golf -Jetta 93-98, ABA. This is what I have. ANy of the I-4 engines will fit whichever one you choose. This will move the throttle body to the other end of the manifold (rear of the bus), and should preclude your having to bang the metal out. Someone else mentioned the low power output of a Fox motor- this is true, but it's largely due to the exhaust design, a 4-into-1 manifold. Get the manifold off of an early Dasher or Quantum, and you'll get a 10% power increase. Of course, there's no replacement for displacement, but there are a lot of camshaft choices out there that can help even a 1.8 do well. Best of all, once you're converted, you can re-use all those spiffy diesel parts on any 2L engine you might find... -Simon On Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at 08:21 PM, john Runberg wrote: > Has anyone installed a 1990 or newer Fox engine into Vanagon using the > diesel mounts?
