After about twelve days of sanding prep, painting, cutting replacement door / wall /ceiling panels, chasing down poor ground connections, getting only half of my rubber door seals order, bidding on Elephant Ear mirrors and forcing the seller to ship (sold too cheap) ................. I'm now ready to take the 66 Splittie Westy for the state inspection. I have squeezed my flesh under countersunk washers, scraped my knuckles sanding, abraded away my fingerprints, abused my feet, knees and back in contortions. I managed to run about five gallons of gas thought the splittie running errands and I've got to admit, once you get all of the pieces screwed, bolted, glued down properly it has become a viable means of transportation. Considering the 2600 pounds and a 1700 cc Dual port / Dual Carb engine that probably has a hot cam, this thing will run circles around my 83 Westy at 5300 pounds and the 2000cc engine. Considering it has the same DK transmission as my 83 Westy, it should perform well on the highway as well. I've got to admit it was a pretty scary looking project in the beginning but it has all come together for only about $300.00 in parts and materials. (Thank heaven it had a good engine!) For those interested I blew off the 94 Eurovan at the $1500.00 price. I just can't justify getting away from the Air Cooled vans (up to my bo-hunkus in parts).
