I think he is talking about the fill plug, which is the one on the side.

I thought about my idea of drilling through the plug causing shavings. I think with a good sharp drill, low RPMS, and grease up the bit right as it is about to break through, shavings getting into the case would be minimal. They also would be large and sink to the bottom pretty readily, and probably stay there.
