Just get the electrical connector for the cruise control unit that goes on the back of the speedometer - why reinvent the wheel? You can also loop the tach signal back into the VSS too.

In looking for a speed sensor, has anyone tried using the pickup from a cheap bike computer and wiring it in? Sounds easy enough, if you are an electrical genius.
