You have a couple better choices...

If it's *really* oxidized, use Dupont Polishing Compound. It's much less abrasive that the rubbing compound. (Green can) or, if it's just 'oxidized', use one of the deep cleaning car waxes. I use Turtle Wax's and a low speed buffer/polisher. Makes it look like new.
