I've also got a Green 83 Westy. I'd suggest that you use Mothers cleaner Wax and just repeat the process about three times over the next 12 months. You may not get all of the oxidation off the first or second application but you'll be keeping your original paint. You can never get a paint job as good as the original. If you have a repaint job on your Westy ............... then just take it to the car wash and let those guys with the buffers have a go at it.
