Sorry. The dipstick goes in the back of the block. With the nose up, it will read higher, nose down, lower. No great mystery. Check it on level ground. Side-to-side level not as critical.

My oil level can show more than 1/2 qt difference when the van is parked front end up or rear end up. I'm not talking about really steep hill parking, just enough so the side door will tend to slide open or closed instead of staying still. This seems like a huge change, much more than any other vehicle I remember but I'm paying very close attention to oil level [still trying to get new rings to seat] so maybe that's why I notice it.

Does this sound like your experience?
