I understand. Yes probably will not make any difference, but I would like to run my FI system closed loop. I should be able to pick up maybe a mile or two, extend the life of the cat, and get slightly better response to changing conditions (such as altitude, etc.).

Of course the way I drive will have a bigger impact on my mileage than the FI system. But currently this is my toy and I think it would be neat to convert to the CA system. Plus I am tired of fiddling with points.

I am sure it would be cheaper to run a Pertronix (or equivalent ignition) but the OEM system has proved itself over the long term or else not as many of the our CA brethren would still be on the road. After I see how the existing L-jetronic system performs closed loop then I may try the Megasquirt or EFI332 FI systems. But from the BMW FI pages the community seems to believe that a closed loop system is worth the trouble in regards to performance, system operation and mileage.

If I carry this experiment off then I will let the community know what I have discovered. I will run test between stock federal open loop L-jetronic and the modified system.
