Before spazzing - go from simple to complex:

Did you inadvertently bump the ignition key? As time passes, the springy-ness of the switch can fade making it easy to have the switch in a position where the car is running (power to the coil and some accessories) but no power to the 'X' circuit that controls the load reduction relay. Have you noticed that with the headlight switch on full, the headlights go out while the starter is cranking? That is by design, not by accident.

BTW, having more keys on your keyring than the janitor of the Empire State Building can also exacerbate this problem.

If the ignition checks out okay - move along the path - check the 'X' circut wire and the relay....
