Subject: Syncro speedometer repair?
Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII

Hi, all.

I'm sure a Bentley or some other service manual that I don't have knows all about this. However, I don't have one. :)

The speedometer on my '87 Syncro may or may not still work (it's got 129K miles on it.) But the problem, I found, is deeper than that -- the output on the front differential isn't turning at all. At first sight, this looks like the sort of project that the PO didn't fix for a reason. But a mechanic friend of mine suggested that it might be nothing more than tugging out the offending part with a pair of pliers and replacing it, claiming it's that simple on Toyotas.

So. How DO you fix a frozen speedo output? The whole speedometer-and-odometer thing would sure be handy, especially since the gas gauge is broken. ;) One step at a time...
