Needed: 010 TK mkI auto tranny expert to answer questions

Kind of OT but related, my daughter has a rabbit with an 010 type TK A/T. When changing the gear lube the other day I had ATF come pouring out of the fill hole when I pulled the plug. This indicates TC seal failure, yes? Is this something replaceable without pulling the tranny apart, I know it has to be removed. Any experiences out there? TIA

Hi Blake,

1) The installed seal depth is not decided by a committee, it's determined by the VW installation tool design shown on Bentley page 32.4.

2) Forget the seal adhesive idea, only use the VW recommendation to wet the seal with ATF prior to installation as shown on Bentley page 32.4.

3) As for my suggestion to use a Vasoline Petroleum Jelly packing to secure the T/C seal garter spring during the actual T/C radial seal installation, this is a standard procedure with A/T rebuilders.

Don't experiment with double seals or seal adhesive, just follow VW procedure!

Regards, John
