The headlights don't stay on but the parking lights do.

Try wiring the stereo to be always hot--then you won't even need the key to listen to your stereo. I used a spare rear window defroster switch put in the extra blanked off spot on the dash to control the "switched" power lead to the stereo. I picked up power from the 4-way flasher switch--this is always hot.

Some time ago, I got tired of listening to the first three notes of "La Cucaracha" every time I left the driver's side door open. For one thing, it's a real drag if you want to listen to music outside the van, with the front doors open. An electrician friend identified the culprit (a block inserted on the back side of the fuse box), which I removed.

It has since occurred to me that it would be real handy if these chimes could be activated not by leaving the front door open but rather whenever the ignition is "off" and the headlights are left "on."

Is this possible? If so, could someone explain the necessary wiring (in very basic terms)?
