Ben is correct. 3person bench seats do require some support in the middle portion. Where I think Ben is not correct is to say that Transporters are walk-through. The 85 Transporter I have converted to a partial Westfalia roof and upstairs bed, was /is a walk-through, equipped with two bucket seats. It originally had floor to ceiling metal walls behind each seat. Another 85 I had was quite different. It had a metal wall from one side to the other (up to the height of the seat back and therfore not walk-through) and it had the 3 person bench that had some kind of support on the wall. But the bench does need some support in the middle.
