Take your van to a reputable A/C shop and have them test the system and look for leaks. Before you go, remove the cover over the A/C relays and high side fitting in the rear closet.

Once you find out where the leaks are, either have them repair it, or have them evacuate the system if you will be doing the repairs yourself.

After it has been repaired, make sure that both evaporator fans are working. The fan circuit likes to melt the fuse holders located by the relays in the rear "C" pillar. The last couple of camper A/C systems I looked had one of the fuses blown so only one of the blowers was working. You can tell quickly if the amount of air coming out of the vents is less on one side than on the other.

The camper A/C should be able to lower the interior temperature 30F degrees below the outside temp, but it takes it some time to do it.
