First check that the gauge supply voltage is correct (10v +/- 0.5v). Low voltage can cause the light to flash. Assuming that's not it, if the light flashes *with the 43 module removed* then it's unquestionably the gauge. Also, if the 43 module is taller than wide and the light flashes without also pegging the needle, it's the gauge (or low gauge voltage). You can generally fix the gauge by removing the face, removing the circuit board and replacing the electrolytic cap on the board, preferably with a tantalum. But it's a nuisance.
