Chris,

First things first. Weird is weird but looks really weird when you keep spelling it "wierd". The spellingnazi made me do it.

Now with that aside, I can tell you that this particular van with the diagonal brown interior had Federal and California tags. By that I mean there were VOA stickers in the appropriate places. I did not check the VIN as I did not assume it was a "one-off" as you refer to it.

As for where I find them? There is a 1989 16" Syncro Double Cab with a factory turbodiesel and gray all vinyl upholstery and two person front passenger bench. There is also a 1990 non-GL with all rubber mats over head AC and gray tweed upholstery with black and red flecks. No side table and has black metal bumpers. Uncovered metal dash. No Tach. Tomorrow, a 1982 right hand drive single cab with a 1.6 liter Weber carburated engine will be joining this happy little group. This is in addition to the 14" Syncro, 1982 Gl w/I4, and 87 GL. ALL OF THEM PARKED IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. If you drive ten blocks from my house, you can go to my buddy's shop today, you will find an 1985 Escatorial Green 14" Syncro Double Cab with a 2.1 WBX in process of replacing a factory carburated 1.9 WBX. That one has all brown vinyl walkthrough interior. Just aft of it is a baby blue 1985 2wd Double Cab with a 1.9td in place of the old 1.6na. Interior in that guy is a walkthrough brown cloth and vinyl. There are also four carats on the lot. Blue, Maroon, & two Whites. Two different types of velour. Oh yeah, there's another 1990 non-GL with the tweed interior. There were also half dozen other Vanagon Westies littering the lot.

Hotbed of weird Vanagon one-offs? No, it's just a normal day. I didn't see more than 30 Vanagons while driving yesterday. Maybe 25-27. One-offs? Maybe. But if they're one-offs, there wouldn't be anything like it in the world, right? But these are not unique in the VW world. I believe that was the direction of the discussion. We were talking about weird interiors. Not weird interiors that you see only in US Spec Vanagons for sale on ebay. Right?

ps: I just bought a RHD Single Cab yesterday in case you missed that. Very weird to drive when you're used to driving US spec LHD cars.
