Subject: Re: Installing SA Headlights & Grill
Hey Bruce:
I am going through the same thing right now. To me it appears that:
1. If you have a square-light Vanagon, you must remove the small "tabs" on
the bottom edge of the mounting by drilling our the pop rivets. Otherwise
they interfere with the brackets for the inner lights.
2. Only the outside two mounting pins of the grill will "lock" into place,
since there is nothing for the inner two pins to mate with. (the old
headlight buckets have two mounts each, but the round lights only have a
single mount.
3. There does not appear to be a good way to attach the top center mount
for the grill. The old grill uses a "push lock" mount, but the new grill
has a screw hole.
Bottom line, it appears that the grill will need to be glued or duct-taped
into place in order to make it secure. Only two of the five mounts appear
to be functional without some significant modification.
There are enough of these mounted that I am sure someone has figured this
out by now.... Any better ideas?
