last weekend I put in a new headlight switch. This weekend I tried to upgrade with the relays. This is a '81 Westfalia model. Got two 40 Amp relays and connected one to fuse #4 (lowbeam), the other one to fuse #6 (highbeam) . The hot wires were attached to fuse #7 and #9 which supposed to be permanent hot. Attached the ground. Reattached battery and cheched out headlights: headlights came on, highbeams came on. Disconnected battery again and squeezed all wires back and reattached fusebox. Reconnected battery and checked out lights: NO headlights, no highbeams (highbeam indicator light is alweays on). Disconnected the relays and put everything back "as it was". Still no lights, but funky business (tried again with relays but still the same funkiness): with headlight switch off: turnsignal work, emergency flasher work, door buzzer is intermittent (sometimes on after putting ignition on, sometimes not). Fan not working. with headlight switch on: highbeam indicator light always on. No headlights. No highbeams. use of the the highbeam switch turns on both turnsignals. No turnsignal, nor emergency flashing lights! The color of the wire I put the relay in were yellow/black for fuse #4 and white for fuse #6. Somehow I must have created a short??!! when I reattached the fusebox? How do I get out of this mess?
