Just to add a post script to your email.
The initial H4 setup we supply come with a lot of extra stuff - bulbs, bulb
holders, H4 socket etc. If you do happen to break one of these lights the
replacement shell is quite a bit less - $129 USD - which is AFAIK cheaper
than the dealer for a 9004 shell!

Subject: Square to round lights
The discussion lately on lights has sparked my interest. I currently have
the DOT 9004/H3 square lights with relays installed. Relays made a HUGE
difference as some of you have discovered, but these lights still suck ass.
For comparison I have a Rabbit with 55/60W 200mm H4s installed - vastly
superior to Vanagon. I also have a GTi with 7" round 80/100W H4s,
illuminates the next corner at three digit speeds no problem - in comparison
the Vanagon lights look like two fishbowls with candles in them.
Upgrade Options:
SA grille - Pro: 7" rounds are common and cheap, nice functionality
Con: Need buckets and mounting hardware from junkyard
Need main lights and bulbs to complete kit (add $120)
Expensive for what you get (gti grilles with driving
lights are
<$75.00)
Project - Pro: Not sure about size (165mm or 200mm) but lamps are common
and cheap
zwo Con: Ohmygod expensive
Fast - Pro: Keep stock grille - bolt on mod
Forward Con: Ohmygod expensive for full set up
Specialized lamp assemblies - don't break one
Junkyard - Pro: Plenty of junk
Rounds Con: Plenty of junk
No driving lights without aftermarket additions
Questions:
The square grille to round grille swap is backwards compatible with no
modification? yes/no
If anyone is familiar with euro Sciroccos and Audis - can the early 80's
Audi S2 lamp assemblies (integrated main/driving lamps) fit in the square
light grille? yes/no

Has anyone tried using Rabbit 200mm buckets in the Vanagon square grille?
yes/no - explain
Just looking at possible options cause around here in the Pacific Northwest,
winter is very very dark.
