For you mathematicians out there you need to calculate the expotential
tire diameter growth at 168 mph along with the fact that the specific
gravity of 5,000 pounds at 168 mph velocity is reduced to the point that
a squirrel collision with any tire results in sure death.
In AA fuel racing our tires grew exponentially and no longer had a bead
seal to the rims at 200 + mph. It was the liner that kept the tube inside
the tires. We marked our tires at the valve stems and after a few hard
passes we changed the tires to be sure that the tube wasn't bunched
because the tire moved from its designated spot (they always moved) on
the wheel when it reseated to the rim. Bad reseating was a sure sign that
the valve stem was going to rip out of the tube and kill a driver along
with wrecking the car.
(expotential) Spell check doesn't seem to like this word.
