Andrew, I think replacing with new coupling would be a better idea. Are these no longer available? I believe the design is for safety reasons. It keeps the steering wheel from hitting your chest in a front end collision. gary Date: Mon, 7 Oct 2002 23:51:44 +1300 From: Andrew Grebneff <andrew.grebneff@STONEBOW.OTAGO.AC.NZ> Subject: Replacing steering rubber link with universal joint Anyone tried replacing the rubber coupling in the steering column with a splined universal joint? This would eliminate the possibility of losing the steering (so many listees have reported looking and discovering their couplings holding by a few strands) and also reduce steering play hugely. I am going to (eventually) look into this.
