Good idea.

And for those of us with security alarms, run a sensor wire to the grille and trap it between the grille and the screw mounting point. When the grille is pulled away from the body, the alarm siren goes on right in his face.

He probably won't go anywhere with the grille, because the wires headlight are still attached. The leash idea is a good back-up, just in case he wants to give one big heave-ho to try to run off with it when when the alarm/horn goes on.
