Steve -

Since you didn't mention the year of your Vanagon, the question can be a
bit more complex to answer, but here goes (Part numbers are all Bosch):

Ignition Wire Set:
If using 03 010 Cap (Non Pin) - 09 180
If using 03 212 Cap (Pin Type) - 09 272

83.5-84 Vanagons normally used the Non Pin type, but can be retro-fitted
with the Pin type Distributor Cap.
1985 Vanagons normally used the Pin type Distributor Cap.
I use the Pin type on my 84 Westy.  Ignition noise on Pin type Wires have
suppressors on both ends.

The 09 180 Wire Set will work on the Non Pin type Distributor Caps, you
just won't have Ignition noise suppression on the Cap end of the wires.
Bosch designed the ends to work with both styles of caps.

All 86-91 Vanagons were originally equipped with the Pin type Wires when
using Distributor Caps 03 212, 03 214, 03 360 & 03 368 (dependent on the
year and distributor number).  Again, the 09 180 Wire Set will fit in place
of the Pin type wires.
