You can use a large screwdriver or prybar. Your fulcrum is the edge of the valve cover's lip, and the action end goes just under the hex-shaped area on the injector. Even better is to use a medium curved heel bar, with your fulcrum to the side of the injector and the action end in the same spot. Either way, you need to supply some opposite force with your (leather gloved) hand to make the injector pull straight out. The main thing to remember is that even if you hurt something, it's likely to be the injector insert... or your hand. If the injectors have never been molested, chances are they'll have some truly rock-hard, fat, rubber donut-shaped o-rings. Replace these with the new, green Viton items. What year head are you using, and is it CIS or CIS-E? Either way you're going to have injector inserts that the injectors sit in, and likely they're in rough shape, too. They're all readily available, as well as the seals that go between them and the head. I always replace all of this. Finally, later CIS and all CIS-E injectors' air shroud system involves an additional piece of metal on the tip of the injector, along with yet another seal. '84 and early '85 CIS air-shrouded injectors do not have this, and rely instead on the shape of the injector inset tips. I could go on... p-mail if you want more info. -Simon
