Subject: Syncro Tranny in a 2WD
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

All, I recently purchased a 89 Westy 2WD. I've got a Subaru 2.2L engine on the way and I've talked with the folks at Kennedy Engineered Products about their conversion kit. I've read a few threads that mention putting a syncro tranny in a 2WD to get the advantages of the granny gear and locking rear end. Unfortunately none of these go into much detail. Does anyone have additional info on this conversion. The folks at Kennedy (I believe I was talking with Kennedy himself) said that the syncro version has the engine sitting a few inches lower than the normal 2WD version to allow room for the drive shaft up to the front. Would I need to mount my engine as a syncro does? Or could I use the normal 2WD engine mounting since I will not be using the drive shaft? What other big issues would there be in doing this conversion? Thanks in advance for any info. Barry
