Subject: Upper Ball Joint Removal (!#$%^&)

Well, After a day of attempting to remove the upper ball joints on my 84 Westy, I am somewhat at a loss of how to proceed. I read Tom Carrington's description of how to remove the upper ball joints and performed the procedure as he described. I now have the stem of the ball joints nicely stuck in the steering knuckle and cannot remove them. Does anyone know how to remove these without removing the entire assembly (brakelines, calipers, tie-rods, etc). I am thinking a wheel puller would help, but after attaching a large c-clamp to them and a large deepwell socket on top of the ball and cranking to what must have been 2000lbs of torque, they will not budge. Tried liquid wrench and heat to no avail.

Anyone have this problem or ideas?

Thanks, Jim W.
