In my ignorance, I thought the same as most guys, then I saw the deft moves which a man older and wiser than myself used to pop apart a tapered joint. A smart rap is not "banging" on the part. If you can, talk to a machinist or millwright who has spent some time making love to taper fits. Finesse it, my man, don't beat the freakin' thing into submission.
