Could you eloborate on where you suggest hitting the knuckle ...? On its head, on the thread end or .... It not's clear to me what you mean by 'right along side of the tapered hole'

I found the forks useless so try to use the one with a srew thingie instead - maybe 'cos of my poor technique with the fork then!
