There have been many interesting engine conversions that are chronicled in the 50s to 60s Hot Rod Magazine. I think that adapter bell housings and motor mount kits were available to convert just about any domestic engine to domestic car that was ever built before the late seventies. One of the most popular conversions ever was a 48 Mercury engine installed in any Ford or Mercury from 39-47. Pretty simple conversion. I think Britt Grannis with Road Cow has a Toyota engine in a Bay van. This sounds like a working combination. I understand that many large CC Honda engines are a near bolt in for Honda CIVICs and there are many sleepers in this category.
