Good point, George. I did make a half-ass attempt at considering tire weight. I used an online vendor that lists tire weights and compared about 3 random michelin tires in size 205/70-14 and 205/65-15 (obviously not vanagon tires). The weights were the same. Of course, those specs could certainly be wrong, along w/ a host of other possible error factors.

There must be a formula to figure the mass of a tire, given all else was equal? I tried to guesstimate the difference w/ my crude geometry skills, and it still doesn't seem like there would be much difference.

James, The weight we need to know is the weight of the tire and wheel combined. If the 15" wheel weighs more and the 15" tire weighs less then every thing may be even. If the 15" tire weighs more than the 185R14 then the unsprung weight would increase even more. Has anybody checked this out. Also does anyone know how much the Audi 5000 15" wheel weighs? Thanks, George '85 Westfalia
