I was actually thinking of adding a few 1/4 turn latches to hold the battery cover in place (and maybe rig up something so the edge under the seat doesn't need fasteners). Maybe just two latches where easily accessible, and then slide the cover out. I don't think it would be too hard to do that, of course i havn't looked into the details of that yet.

Also doesn't solve the long jumper cable issue, either (although my solution to that is simply to have the long ones yourself...)

Thanks for your comments thus far. They've been very helpful and my van is looking fairly spiffy.

Question: is there an easier way of jumping a dead Westy battery than moving the captain's chair, unscrewing the covers and making sure I have a long enough set of jumper cables to reach it? Seems like it would be far easier to be able to jump from the engine compartment or otherwise. Having drained the DieHard in my old Bronco a dozen times, I'm sure I'll be repeating the process in the Westy.

I searched the archives looking for an answer to this, but came up with nothing, short of repositioning the battery, something I don't really want to do.

So how do you folks deal with it? Just grin and bear it? (No "I never let my battery drain" answers, thanks...)
