I think he (Mark) is looking for a better way to jump start his dead *Bronco* from the Vanagon. Therefore he needs access to the Vanagon's battery(s).

The "NATO" connectors sound best. AAA service trucks have a similar connector on the front where they can plug in the jumper cables.

Just get mating connectors, one for the front of your Bronco, and one for the rear of the Vanagon (you'd have to run the cables to connect to the starter terminal). Then just plug them together when you need to jump one or the other.
