Back from the Glen without any problems. Yahoo ! Got in around 8 pm
after a splendid week end of camping in Watkins Glen State Park. Saturday
hike through the Watkins Glen Gorge and a wine tasting tour. Sunday the 12
or 15 Westys caravaned over to the race track for some "fast laps". We were
allowed one hour of track time which went by all too fast. We were to follow
the track pace car and no passing. Joel did you know that ? I got passed by
Joel in the big downhill bowl while slowing down for a green beetle that was
slowing and then finally stopped ?? Ran out of gas we found out later, opps
! Anywhos, Joel passes me at this point so I get on his tail and pushed him
around for a few laps ! What a hoot. Pots and pans and beer in the fridge
banging and clanging ! Next year I'm bringing my full race Vanagon with the
VR6 in it ! I'll show those Finger Lake guys and gals.
Those of you who did not show up sure missed a great event in a super
fine location. Thanks to Joel Cort from Rochester and the FLVWC for
organising this event and I'll be back next year if you keep on with this
event. But PLEASE, PLEASE lets separate the vans from those slow poke
beetles ! Not to be confused with Chris "Slowpokey" from TO. He and
Jennifer were doing just fine in their air-cooled Westy !
IWCCC contingency from Quebec City were definitely the long distance
winners. Me it was a five hour drive from Almonte, about 400 km. Nice
Sunday drive. Andre Levigne from Gatineau and I caravaned up to the border
at Thousand Islands where we met up with Larry & Avery Johnson from
Wilberforce, ON. Had a littler chat and went our separate ways. No probs at
the border crossing for any of us. Andre did get into a short discussion
about how fast the TDI's were at the track, with the border guard he
encountered. What a bigger hoot ! Oh well, always something to keep us
entertained while 'en route home !
Videos & pics to come soon ........staytuned !
Cheers
