Ok.... I know it's an old thread being awakened, but... I'm looking for tires to fit my '91 Carat with the alloys. When I needed tires for my '90, I bought the Michelin MXTs, which were great. (and when it got totaled 6 months later, I should have grabbed the tires off of it!) Well, as the list members know, the MXTs are out of production. The only recommendation I've got from the local tire guy is to go with the Michelin MX4 at 195r7514 sizing. And they're expensive! I've been driving on Firestone 440 passenger car tires, and they are awful. Since one broke a belt (big bulge in side wall), I need to replace at least on tire, and should probably bite the bullet and get all four. Looking at the archives I see some driving with LT27x8.50R-14 , but I think this would be uncomfortable around here. Of course, if I believe the tire manufacturers, there are no tires to fit a Vanagon! (Try it, go the automated fitment guide on any of the manufacturers, everyone comes up with no recommendation for a Vanagon!) Your input appreciated,
