If you have a problem you can't resolve, pick up the phone and call Bob
Donalds, Jake Rabey, Ron Solomon, Daryl at AA Transaxle or whoever the
needed guru is.
Don't depend on E-mail.
Busy people consider it a time waster.
The most intelligent people are very selective about what they read so if
you must use E-mail try to be specific in the subject line and change the
subject line if you need to.
Search the archived for post by e-mail address of the specialist you
respect. Most likely your problem isn't unique. If it was a tough
problem, more than likely it was one of them that came with the proper
answer.
Taking a Vanagon and stripping it down is great training.
You get to see neglected CV joints, where mice prefer to nest, how much
dust a fresh air blower can hold before it quits, how hard you can hit
the blower cover before you break it, how to keep up with nuts bolts and
washers. In most cases you can diagnose the reason that the van sold for
so little.
Its an elevating experience to reduce a Vanagon down to a shivering shell
and follow it to a car crusher and watch them brick it.
That other 10% might need to include that I'm 60 years old and the first
transmission I rebuilt was in my first car; a 32 ford five window that I
bought for $20.00 in 1957.
