Stan,
A couple of weeks ago, my wife was driving the 87 Westy home from Cape Cod.
I was following her in my New Beetle, when she suddenly turned on the
4-ways and pulled over to the shoulder of the road. I followed suit, got
out of the beetle walked over to the van to see what was up. She said that
when she would hit 65 mph the engine would buck and shake and wouldn't go
any faster. So I went through a quick check list with her....."were you in
4th gear" I asked.....
She said of course not, I was in 5th! 5th you say? Yep...5th. So I said,
strange the van only has 4 gears.......
ooops turns out she was in 3rd and revving the pi$$ out of the engine.
In her defense, her Cabrio, our former EV and my NB all have 5
speeds....and she doesn't drive the Westy all that often...
