Subject: non-stock relay turnsignal problem... (longer than it should be)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Sigh. So i do the whole re-wire for my dash and headlights... fires up perfect first time. Methinks i am some sort of electrical stud. Studliness i posess no longer.

Background: Upgraded '84 westy to E-code headlights with city/parking light in main bulb housing. Disconnected stock corner lamp parking light to achieve the more positive on-off blinkie turn signal. Decided i wanted corner parking light back, while keeping better blinkie.

Current wiring solution/problem: SPDT Relays wired in series after turn signal switch and in parallel with parking lights.

-bk/w (18) coming from turn signal switch into terminal 86 of relay (about 8" from switch)

-bk/w (18) coming out of terminal 85 of relay to wherever it was going in the first place

-ran two wires out of single spade on terminal 1 of fuse block (spade was for rear parking light... oops, wanted front, but doesn't really matter). New wire goes into terminal 30 of relay.

-routed wire from terminal >>87a<< on relay to parking light.

Results: corner parking lights come on as expected (relay wired nominally closed), however, when turn signal applied, a small silver relay box simply buzzes weakly (almost sounds like a small electric motor on a dead battery). No turn signal blinkie anywhere.

Sigh.

Should i have wired the relay to the 18g white wire feeding the "emerg flasher relay" instead of after the switch? But then i wouldn't turn off only the appropriate parking light for blinking... Or an even better question: What the hell is going on? What is that small silver box with a "25" on top of it do? Just buzz at you when you do stupid things? Please let me know how i can fix this self-induced problem.

As always, thanks for your input (it truly is invaluable as the only time i've had a problem working on my van is when i did something without consulting the list, first :-)
