Back when I had an '84, I had to replace two ignition switches. This was five years ago, and my memory is foggy, but I remember being able to leave the collar assembly on and coax the switch out by jamming a flat-head screwdriver into the slot. Remember that you don't have to worry about damaging a part that is already broken. :)

Bentley is little help in this case, but I had a Haynes '80-'83 manual handy that had a full procedure. Find a friend who has a copy or let me know if you want me to fax the pages to you.
