Subject: changing girlfriend's oil

Dave, The kind of driving is very important. Short frequent driving is harder on the oil than long less frequent hiways miles. Short driving times will not drive the fuel and water from the oil. Two time a year with short trips or once a year with long trips. Sitting around under a tree is not hard on the oil. gary Hey Folks,

I have a semi-Vanagon related question for you all.

I drive my Vanagon about 18 - 25k a year. I get my oil changed every 4k miles, with no problems.

My girlfriend on the other hand, puts about 2200 miles on her car (1988 Nissan Sentry, with 68k) a year, driving it once a week, and sometimes letting it sit for 2 - 3 weeks at a time.

When should she change her oil? Her total miles for the last year was 2,550. She had the oil changed recently (June I believe), and wanted to know ... when she should change again, knowing it sits a lot, and is not used frequently.

Just curious,
