I've got an 85 vanagon GL with a problem that only occurs after the vehicle has sat for at least 2 days. Starts fine, idles fine, initially runs fine. But on 2 occassions yesterday at about 3/4 mile, I had to stop; the idle drops to around 800, I try to "goose" the accelerator with no success, the engine stops and is hard to restart. Well, got it started, got on the freeway where it did OK, but still lurched and didn't feel right. Exited and had to stop at a light. The temperature gauge is at operating temperature and the same thing happens--drop in rpm, "goose" the gas with no success, engine dies. Restarts hard, but I got to work. On the way home, it ran fine. My thoughts are: (1)fuel filter, (2)AFM (3)Anything else? I don't think its an injector, as it runs fine 99% of the time.
