Pat, I got my Pentosin brand blue coolant from Halsey Automotive in
Portland, OR.  And I followed Doktor Tim's instructions from a post in the
archives (after reading for over 5 hours various people's preferences and
ideas over a couple year period) at

The only thing I would add to Tim's stuff is that as a first timer it took
me and my local mechanic more like 6 hours start to finish (with an
overnight cool-down and bleed in the morning cuz he wanted to close his
shop ;-) not 1.5-- the 1.5 is about the amount of time you'd spend if you
walked away and did other things while the van was draining and while it
was cooling down in between bleeds, though.

Hi,

    As a new 87 westy owner, all the discussion about coolant is a little
unsettling.  I have never owned a waterpumper VW before.  I have always had
air-cooled.  Now I am about to change my coolant for the first time.  Where
can I buy the coolant & what is the brand name?  Do I need to go to the
dealer or are there other sources?  Where can I find accurate & concise
instructions on how to flush & refill my system?  Thanks for the info.
